LAUREL COOK – Photo Bombed Quilts

Introducing Laurel Cook, our current artist with work on the Shop wall in the Cafe. 9! A recent immigrant from the Almonte area, Laurel has earned recognition not only for the stunning ‘photo bombed’ barn quilts you will find if you stop by for lunch, but the career she carved out in the military as well as decades breeding champion working Labrador retrievers with her husband, Ross McLaughlin.

Since closing their kennel and moving to the Eganville area in 2020 Laurel has already left her mark, establishing the Bonnechere Valley Inspired Tour and initiating the “Doors of Eganville’ project. Check out the 2011 feature on her in The Humm online and come for lunch to see her really unique barn quilts painted on lightweight aluminum with high quality exterior house paint. She has managed to achieve the same fine definition in her animals as she did in her very popular interior animal portraits.

The ones on display are for sale but you can also commission one (or two) for your barn or shed wall, with your own favourite animal(s) featured. So nice to bridge that distance and connect artists who share a love of the upper Ottawa valley. Welcome Laurel!
