Last September, Geraldine, one of the founding members of artPontiac and long-time owner of a historic home inn Portage-du-Fort, provided us with a collection of her collages to display on the Shop wall of the Cafe 349. Now she’s back with a sampling of oil and acrylic paintings that span her decades of life as an artist in Ottawa and the Pontiac.
Geraldine says that the collection reflects what she sees as her colourful life. From the dark satanic mills of Yorkshire to the sunny cold of Saskatchewan, and, in later years, the warm climate and people of Mexico.
After more than half a century of working in her studio in Portage du fort, she also acknowledges that it is the history of Portage which informs much of the work in this show. She also sees similarities between small town life, be it in the Pontiac or Mexico, and the contrasts of colour that come together in all her creations in recent years.
